The schools financial secretary Jessica Prinsloo says the school was broken into three times this month, on March 1, 10 and 12.
“The damage caused during the break-ins to the building will cost plus, minus, R12 000, to repair and the two computers stolen on Wednesday are worth R14 000,” says Prinsloo.
Prinsloo says the school was also broken into two years ago, when R15 000 cash was taken from the schools main safe, along with Prinsloo’s laptop.
Prinsloo says parents and the staff are worried about the safety of the children and staff members.
“We don’t know if the thieves will come back. They could return during the day and hold us hostage.”
She says the school doesn’t have the money to hire 24-hour security guards.
Good news according to Prinsloo, is that the school’s insurance will most likely cover the cost of the stolen computers.
She, however, says the school will welcome any form of donations to upgrade their security systems and to install CCTV’s.
The school is situated on the corner of First Avenue and Sixth Street in Boksburg North.
Prinsloo urges community members who live in the area to assist the school by reporting any suspicious behavior to Johan Niekerk, who is the deputy chairperson of the school’s governing body, on 072 508 8549.
Boksburg North police spokesperson Lieut Juanita Coetzer confirms the incident and says a case of business break-in has has been opened at the station.
