Reiger Park police woman, Const Cynthia Monkwe, was stabbed to death on Monday, February 3.
Monkwe was found near her home in Ramaphosa, when a passerby found her lying on the ground, covered in blood.
According to Brigadier Neville Malila, spokesperson for the SAPS, the police may soon have collected enough evidence to get the case enrolled.
“Investigation still continues as the SAPS is still looking for necessary evidence to build a case against the suspect,” says Malila.
The suspect’s trial was meant to start on Friday, February 7.
Malila says the investigating officer now has two weeks from February 7, to complete his investigations to obtain the evidence needed for the case to be enrolled.
Senior prosecutor, Henk Strydom, confirmed on Monday morning, February 10, that the docket submitted by the police for prosecution did not carry enough evidence and, therefore, was not enrolled.
Concerned members of the public and other concerned police officers, who all want to remain anonymous, say they feel the investigation officer had sufficient evidence connecting the suspect with the crime, before the suspect was even arrested.
The police officer has been suspended since the day of his arrest.
