Random acts of kindness

Generous Dorothy Matthee, of Parkrand, continues to carry out her random acts of kindness around Ekurhuleni.

Along with her husband, Hannes, she recently visited Elspark Shopping Centre to help people living in extreme poverty.

She doled out old and new clothing and sweets to 44 needy people from the surrounding townships.

Dorothy has been helping the poor for more than 13 years, and vowed that she will continue to do so, until the last day of her life on earth.

“As members of the NG Kerk Sunward Park, we feel that we have a responsibility to help those who are in need,” says Dorothy.

“I have been providing the needy with clothing, food, needed sundries, and other basic necessities for the pass 13 years.”

One of the donation recipients, Bulelani Sithole, expressed his gratitude to Dorothy for the periodical help she gives to them.

“We express our deep gratitude for our ouma Dorothy’s generous support. She helps us a lot, and we wish her actions inspire others to do likewise,” says Bulelani.

Dorothy periodically conduct clothing drives at her church. Church members would bring their used or new clothes, toys and other basic necessities, which are then distributed to the needy.

Despite the bad economy, Dorothy buys some of the goods from secondhand shops to donate to the needy.
