Municipal offices closure notice for the festive season

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality informs its residents and businesses that council offices will be closed between Christmas and New Year.

Offices will be closed during the Christmas break from 1pm on December 24 to January 1, and will re-open on January 2.

Offices to be closed for the Christmas holiday season include all council administrative offices, libraries, selected rates halls and pay-points in Ekurhuleni.

However, essential services such as refuse collection, electricity and water services will be operational.

“The closure of non-essential service offices is to ensure that we accommodate our employees who want to ordinarily take leave and travel to their respective home towns during this season, when residents and business need less service offering from the metro as well,” explains Mandlakazi Mpahlwa-Sigcawu, spokesperson for the metro.

The municipality cautions residents and businessowners to refrain from giving gifts to on-duty municipal refuse collection staff this festive season.

The metro disapproves of the presentation of liquor, or any other form of gift to its employees while on duty, as this practice has a negative effect on service delivery. Communities are also advised to be wary of “informal recyclers” and vagrants who pose as municipal workers and harass residents, demanding presents and cash payments.

Residents are advised to utilise the following numbers in cases of emergencies:

* Life threatening emergency line – 011 458- 0911 or 10177 or 112 from mobile phones

* Municipal services call centre: 0860 543 000.

The municipality wishes all its residents a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
