ANC Youth League commerates World Aids Day

The ANC Youth League calls on young people across South Africa to contribute to an HIV-free generation, this as they joined the world in commemorating International World Aids Day on Sunday, December 1.

“In line with this year’s theme, we call on all young people within our country’s borders to get wise, get tested, get circumcised, so as to prevent possibilities of acquiring Human Immunodeficiency Virus,” said the League’s spokesperson Bandile Masuku.

Masuku commended the ANC-led government for the work they are putting in toward the HIV/Aids struggle.

“Since 2009, we have witnessed government programmes that ensure a long life for people living with HIV and Aids,” he said.

Masuku pointed out that the inefficiency by service providers appointed by government to supply anti-retroviral drugs should never be regarded a government problem.

“We are happy with the fact that all those with Tuberculosis (TB) can access TB drugs and that all HIV-positive people can access care and Anti-Retroviral (ARV) treatment.

“The roll-out is efficient, however, service providers appointed should ensure that all drugs ordered are in the medical institutions on time to avoid shortages,” he added.

He also applauded the developments on the simplification of the HIV treatment process by the introduction of the three-in-one pill.

“This pill reduces the likelihood of brothers and sisters skipping their doses. We also take this time to remember those who left us due to HIV/Aids related deaths.”
