SGB members suspended pending investigation

Three members of the Reiger Park Primary School Governing Body (SGB) have been suspended from the SGB amid allegation of maladministration.

The trio was suspended after the Department of Education served them with letters on September 20, stating that the department was intending to suspend them, and they have had 30 days to respond to the suspension letters.

The suspended members confirmed that they had been suspended but would not elaborate.

Although it does not divulge the nature of the charges the trio is facing, the Advertiser obtained a copy of the suspension letter, and it states that the suspension relates to the charges against the former principal.

The former Reiger Park Primary principal, Neill Lochenberg, was suspended and later dismissed after he was found guilty on several counts of financial mismanagement.

The suspended SGB members vowed to challenge the suspension, and added that they have grounds to challenge it.

During a recent parents meeting, some parents suggested that parents need to stage a march to oppose the suspension of the SGB members.

However, according to a source, who asked not to be named, some former members of the SGB are suspected of awarding a supply contract to a person with whom one of the members has a close personal relationship.

“The school management took a decision to close the school bank account and to terminate the supplier’s contract, which resulted in the shortage of papers and the late salary payments,” explains the source.

The Gauteng Department of Education did not comment by the time of going to print.
