Moms donated car seats

After recently collecting used car seats at the East Rand Mall, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Imperial I-Pledge worked with the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department to identify drivers who needed them most on October 23.

The EMPD hosted a mock roadblock in Germiston, and all the drivers who did not have children strapped into a car seat were pulled over by the officers.

The officers explained the importance of using car seats and seatbelts for children.

Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson, Sam Modiba explains, that with hundreds of motor vehicle fatalities every month, the importance of strapping a child into a car seat is a stark and harsh reality.

Peggy Mars, from non-profit organisation Wheel Well, was on hand to advise and educate all on the importance of child safety and issues surrounding it.

The 94.7 Altech Netstar Ground Patrol team handed out car seats that have been collected over the duration of the campaign.

Broadcasting live from Lambton in Germiston, the Breakfast Xpress expressed their sincere gratitude to all listeners and corporates who have made donations.

“Currently in its second year, this campaign has made a difference in the lives of so many.

“We set a target of 1500 car seats at the onset and I am so proud to announce that we have far surpassed that number,” said Darren Simpson, host of the Breakfast Xpress.

“Thanks to all the selfless individuals and companies who chose to play their part.”

During October’s National Transport Month, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Imperial I-Pledge have urged road users to heed the call of donating their used car seats toward giving a child the gift of safety.

East Rand Mall was a drop-off zone for the campaign where moms and dads arrived in their numbers with car seats in hand.
