Strange burning substance illegally dumped
A strange substance is being dumped and set alight at an open veld in Cason, on Champion Road every night, causing choking fumes, which are affecting residence.
This is according to a complainant who prefers to remain anonymous.
“A truck comes every other night to dump and burn this substance which looks like tar. The smell is so unbearable that it affects my ailing mother who is on oxygen,” says the resident.
According to the municipality, an inspection was conducted.
Sam Modiba, metro spokesperson, says the property belongs to the metro.
“The substance that is dumped there is suspected to be from grease traps and has high fat content. There is also other rubble dumped on the stand.
“The municipality has sent a request to the relevant department to put up “No Dumping” signs along Champion Street.
“We are currently not aware who is dumping there, but once we find the responsible persons who have dumped there, we will issue them with fines and get them to clear up the area.”
Modiba requests that residents provide the following details when reporting illegal dumping:
* Registration number of the vehicle.
* Time and date when they dumped and what was dumped.
* The address where the dumping took place.
* A photo, if possible.
