Drugs, guns seized from suspected dealer

A 22-year-old suspected drug dealer, who allegedly tried to shoot a police officer, has been arrested.

Police officers recently stormed the suspect’s home in the Slovo informal settlement, after they received a complaint that he was threatening his wife with a firearm.

When the officers arrived at the man’s shack, the suspect pointed his firearm at one of the officers and attempted to grab his service pistol.

In retaliation, the officer fired one shot, which hit the suspect in his right arm.

The suspect was subsequently arrested.

During the investigation, the police also recovered 17 small packets of dagga, the firearm and two toy guns.

The man was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, dealing in drugs, pointing of a firearm, attempted murder and two charges of possession of dangerous weapons.

He was taken to Tembisa Hospital, where he was held under police guard.

Sgt Mashudu Phathela confirmed the incident, and added that the man is also suspected of being involved other armed robbery cases.
