Lake Rotaract to cycle for a purpose
Two members of the Boksburg Lake Rotaract Club, Oliver Keys and Michael Camden-Smith, are ready to show how fit they really are and raise funds by cycling in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge on November 17.
According to the vice-president of the club, Jessica Jones, the funds raised through the challenge will go towards building a community library in a rural village in Limpopo.
“Over the last two years, the club has played an active role in the communities of Venda,” says Jomes.
“We have equipped classrooms with furniture and books and administered youth workshops that could meaningfully empower the youth of Venda.”
It is the club’s goal to build a library in the village of Dimani as an initiative to safely store the community’s growing educational resources and to act as a hub of learning and community.
Jones says the building plans and consent for the construction of the library have already been obtained.
“To make the dream of a library possible our club would appreciate any donations of books, money and time that can be spared towards this,” says Jones.
The community of Boksburg is encouraged by the club to assist in supplying the Dimani Community a fully-equipped library.
