Breakthrough in the war on drugs
Acting on a tip-off, police raided a suspected drug lab on Leon Ferreira Street, Reiger Park, and found a large amount of chemicals which are apparently being used to manufacture drugs.
Police officers from the SAPS Organised Crime Unit stormed the house in Reiger Park, on Tuesday morning, October 15.
After the discovery of the potentially dangerous chemicals in the suspected drug lab, police had to call in experts from the SAPS forensic science laboratory, to carry out tests and thorough examination of the chemicals.
When police arrived, the home owners were not present, but they found the domestic worker.
However, the home owner’s lawyer arrived at the scene and assured police officers that the drug suspect will hand himself over to the police.
Details of the discovery remain scanty at this point, but a senior police source told the Advertiser that, the discovery of the chemicals will result in drug charges against the property owners.
Sgt Mashudu Phathela, a spokesman for the Reiger Park SAPS, would not release details of the discovery, but said the home was raided for suspected drug activity.
“As the matter is subject to ongoing investigation, no comment can be made at this time.”
