EBA’s invite to Ekurhuleni schools to come dunk

The Ekurhuleni Basketball Association's (EBA) Basketball Academy Development Programme is looking to get more children involved in the sport and expanding its current pool of three academy squads.

The association recently hosted a basketball coaching clinic at Katlehong Sports Complex in Huntersfield on Saturday, October 19, with a tournament taking place a week later at the same venue on October 26.

“In order to host a tournament or any such event, you need to ascertain that those who are responsible for the technical and tactical side of the game are skilled to do so. This is why we held the coaching clinic.

“We do not want a situation where a person calls him or herself a coach, yet they exhibit unethical behaviour,” said Ekurhuleni Basketball chairperson Nhlanhla Zikalala.

Every school in Ekurhuleni, primary and high, is invited to attend the tournament.

The academy squads include two girls teams, u-14 and u-18 and one boys u-18 team.

Zikalala says they are targeting to get more girls involved in the predominantly male sport.

The tournament’s other objectives include fostering competition to strengthen Ekurhuleni’s position in the country, developement of players, social cohesion and skills transference.

Starting time is 8am.
