Woman dies in house fire

A young female patient lost her life after her home caught fire in Vosloorus, Extension 28, on Friday afternoon, October 4.

William Ntladi, Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson says on arrival, the firefighters found a partially burnt house still smouldering.

The fire was extinguished and all the hot spots cooled after members of the community used sand to contain the flames.

“Unfortunately the patient was found lying in one of the sleeping rooms and she was certified dead on the scene.

“She suffered partial burn wounds with possible inhalation burns as she also had facial burns,” says Ntladi.

“The information at our disposal is that she was alone in the house when the incident happened.”

Ntladi says the neighbours apparently saw the smoke protruding through the windows of the house and they immediately forced open the doors to gain excess.

“Community members then used buckets of sands to contain the flames,” he says.

An inquest docket was opened by the police as the cause of the fire is still undetermined.
