Police keep close eye on festivities
All roads led to Wild Waters, as partygoers from all over the country arrived in their numbers, for the Spring Fiesta, on September 22.
Music-lovers were not discouraged by the partly clouded skies and the windy weather which threatened to ruin the mood.
Cars lined up on North Rand and Rondebult roads, while the streets teemed with music fanatics determined to see their favourite artists perform on the day.
The crowds were entertained by some of Mzansi’s top DJs and artists, who catered to all tastes with deep house, commercial and hip hop stages.
This year’s event proved to be the biggest of all fiestas, as crowds of people made their way to the venue until the last few hours.
Capt Garon Sage, of the Boksburg North SAPS precinct, says there were more than 100 men, including members of the Boksburg North SAPS, EMPD and CPF members, patrolling the area on the day.
“The partygoers were excited, but that is not unusual behaviour for such events,” he says.
He adds that the number of motor vehicle thefts that took place along North Rand Road was fairly high, but it cannot be confirmed if all the cars stolen belonged to the partygoers.
“It is possible that the partygoers may have parked further up on the road, leaving their cars unattended and far from the venue,” says Garon.
No assaults and no arrests were reported on the day.
“We are ready to patrol again this weekend, for the H20, and we will be visible on North Rand Road,” Garon adds.
