The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and to try and find ways to put a stop to the rampant crime that has plagued the suburb.
During the meeting, attended by about 120 residents, attendees expressed their frustrations about the rampant rise of criminal activities in their neighbourhood.
They called for stronger measures and tools to protect their belongings against criminals. They expressed concerns about the armed criminals who target residents’ properties, even in broad daylight, while the homeowners are still at work.
Residents also proposed road closure (creation of secured villages).
The area has become home to property crime and the Sunward Park CPF is asking residents to join in the fight against crime.
“It’s our responsibility to look out for our suburb, to be the eyes and ears of the police,” explained Sunward Park CPF chairperson Peter van Rooyen.
Those who witness criminal activity or suspicious behaviour are urged to report it to the police.
“They (the police) can’t be everywhere all the time, so they need the help of the community,” said van Rooyen.
