
According to police spokesperson Lieut-Col Lungelo Dlamini, Boksburg North Police arrested two suspects and recovered two pistols in connection with the shooting.
“Three men allegedly confronted a car radio shop owner at 3pm on the Saturday, demanding money.
“As the shop owner was reacting, he was shot in the upper body and the suspects fled into different directions without taking anything,” says Dlamini.
“Police at the flea market and members of the community reacted, and police managed to arrest two suspects inside the flea market.”
A third suspect managed to flee and police have launched a hunt for him.
Dlamini says one of the arrested suspect has already been linked to a business robbery case in Bramley and another in Boksburg North.
A representative for the East Rand Traders Square management says the shooting was an unfortunate incident and that although everyone is still in shock, flee market management has everything under control.
They say the necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of both the public and traders alike.
The flee market was closed on Sunday, September 15, in respect of those who were deeply affected by the incident.
