Women stabs boyfriend to death

Police recently arrested a 28-year old Reiger Park woman and charged her with murder, after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death during a drunken argument.

The horrific incident happened at the deceased’s home along Blueberry Street, Reiger Park.

According to Sgt Mashudu Phathela, police were called to the scene, and found Martin de Jager lying in a pool of blood with a stab wound to his chest.

He was certified dead on the scene by paramedics.

The knife was also found at the scene covered with blood.

The woman appeared in court and was remanded in custody until further notice.

Phathela says the area has seen a dramatic increase in assault, compared to the same month last year.

He adds that most of them are alcohol-related and most of them happen on weekends.

Due to the extent of the problem, the police plan to have an alcohol awareness campaign on September 21, called ‘Phuza Wise’, when loosely translated into English means drink responsible.

“Our campaign aims to raise awareness about alcohol misuse in the area, through engagement with the public, community leaders, professionals and other stakeholders.

During the event, people will learn about the effects of alcohol on their lives and lifestyle, so that they can make informed decisions when it comes to drinking alcohol.

It will also help teach people about the impact drinking alcohol has on themselves, their friends, families and children, while teaching them responsible drinking habits.
