Suspected daylight burglars arrested

The Boksburg police arrested two Soweto men suspected of daylight burglaries around Boksburg on Friday, September 6.

These men age 25 and 28 were arrested after they were found in possession of suspected stolen goods in Angelo informal settlement.

Police officers say they noticed the suspicious looking men walking towards the taxi rank carrying goods covered with blankets.

Police officers stopped the suspects and asked to search them.

During the search, police found items that appear to have been stolen in a house break-in.

The goods include a Hyundai TV set, computer CPU, DVD player, seven TV remote controls, hair dryer, hair clipper, decoder, two cellphones, Sony video camera, first aid kits in a bag, a bottle of wine and juice, a blanket, a Bible and a gospel DVD.

Suspects failed to prove to the officers that they were the rightful owner of the goods.

Both suspects were immediately place under arrest and transported to the police station, where they were charged with possession of suspected stolen property.

The police say more charges are likely, adding that they believe that these men are among the gang of robbers responsible for the recent rash of daytime burglaries in the city.

Suspects were due to appear in court this week.

“This is a significant breakthrough,” says one of the arresting officers.

An investigation to establish where exactly the goods were stolen is underway.
