
The man’s body was found in Extension 28, Vosloorus, on Sunday afternoon, September 1.
Police spokesperson, Capt Mega Ndobe, says a passer-by noticed the man’s skull and a hand without fingers sticking out of the ground.
The police were then called and found the body in the grave covered with building rubble and grass.
The identity of the man and the cause of his death remain a mystery.
However, police suspect that the victim had been murdered, and the killers tried to conceal the body by burying it in the area.
Police believe that he may have been buried at any time in the past two to three weeks.
A police report lists the victim as a black male, believed to have been an adult dressed in brown trousers and a white T-shirt.
His body has been taken to the medical examiners to determine his identity and cause of death.
The matter is being investigated and an inquest docket has been opened.
