Celebrate your assistant on Secretaries Day
Similarly to words like maid and housewives, secretary may no longer be politically correct word to use when referring to an assistant, however, bosses are encouraged to celebrates National Secretaries Day (which is formerly known as Administrative Professionals Week), on September 4, this year.

Many corporate executives and small-business owners may agree that administrative professionals, better known as secretaries, are usually the backbone of operations within companies.
There are many reasons to show appreciation to administrative professionals on this day; be it that special morning cup of coffee, a consistently organised daily schedule or even the support received in and out of the office.
Some administrative assistants, go above and beyond the call of the filing cabinet and not only maintain the work life of their employees but, often, offer support in personal matters as well.
National Secretaries Day in South Africa is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday of September.
This date was established by the Executive Secretaries Club of South Africa (ECSA) and Kelly Girl, 25 years ago, and was originally organised in 1952 as “National Secretaries Week” by the National Secretaries Association (now known as the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP).
It was established in an effort to recognise secretaries for their contributions in the workplace, and to attract people to secretarial/administrative careers.
In the year 2000, IAAP announced a name change for Professional Secretaries Week and Professional Secretaries Day.
The names were changed to Administrative Professionals Week and Administrative Professionals Day to keep pace with changing job titles and expanding responsibilities of today’s administrative workforce.
The event is celebrated worldwide, bringing together millions of people for community events, educational seminars, and individual corporate activities recognising support staff with gifts of appreciation.
