According to Sam Modiba, spokesperson for the metro, this is to ensure that the BRT system will take off without glitches.
Ekurhuleni is set to implement the BRT system as part of its Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network (IRPTN).
“In this regard, we will play our cards open to the captains of taxi industry at our two-day workshop, in August, with the view to beginning in-depth negotiations,” Modiba says.
“The workshop is themed ‘Moving Towards Negotiations’ and brings all taxi associations in Ekurhuleni to the table, to discuss the implications and benefits of the BRT system on the industry.”
According to him, the taxi industry is the metro’s key stakeholder and partner in the rolling out of the BRT system.
“It is, therefore, critical to commit ourselves to consulting and communicating with the taxi industry regarding our BRT plans,” Modiba says.
