Stolen brass items cause water leak

Two water leaks on Commissioner Street in Boksburg were reported to the municipality with no progress, since July 24.

According to the complainant, Karen McSweeney, the first leak was water bubbling out of the pavement, diagonally opposite the Les Smith Sub-station and the second was water streaming down the road from the Boksburg Cemetery towards the sub-station.

Sam Modiba, metro spokesperson says the pressure regulating valve (PRV) was vandalised, and all brass items stolen.

“The reticulation were under RWB 12 Bar pressure and we can’t just close water for repairs as there are industries that are highly dependent on the supply,” he says.

Modiba says a new PRV has been fitted, and the municipality is attending to the burst pipes with Ekurhuleni teams and contractors.

“Unfortunately there is no quick fix to the problem, however, it will be resolved,” he says.
