
According to Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD, five vehicles were impounded for not being roadworthy, and 10 fines were issued for registration and licensing violations.
“Some 47 fines were issued for moving violations, which included driving over barrier, emergency and channelising lines, damaged tyres, defective lights, defective brakes and talking on a cellphone while driving without a hands-free kit and failing to wear a seatbelt,” adds Mokheseng.
He says that 131 pedestrians and motorists were stopped and searched in the CBD, industrial sites, suburbs and at informal settlements.
There were 19 accidents during the past week, of which one resulted in a slight injury and the remainder resulted in damages only.
